// UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS

Note: These instructions are for upgrading to this new version from a clean previous version. Any modifications made to your VGPortal may affect this upgrade and vice versa. For best results, identify the changes made in your modified files and see if the files that you've modified have been changed in this new release. If not, then do not upload the new files. If so, then insert the modified code into the new files at your own risk or wait for a new release of the modification for this version.

Step 1.
Upload all files under the "upload" folder (or only the files noted in the 'changes.txt') onto your site except template files if you've modified them. Please check 'changes.txt'
 to see new template files that will need to be uploaded.

Step 2.
Run upgrade.php via your browser.

Step 3.
Delete the upgrade.php file from your server.

Step 4.
Test the various aspects of your site and if there's a problem caused by the upgrade then seek assistance on the VGPortal forum.

// CUSTOMIZING VGPORTAL

(1) Customizing Article types
You will want to create your own type of article types. Article types are different types of articles like News, Review, Preview, Guide, Cheats, etc... Try to be creative and make your own unique article types that seperate your site from the rest. To add a new type go to your Admin CP and click on "Add new article type".

(2) Customizing Categories
Categories in VGPortal are your "Systems" or "Consoles" if you are running a video game website. To add them go into your Admin CP and click on "Add new category". You will need to add one for each console or system you cover.

(3) Customizing Article Ratings
VGPortal comes with the ability to add ratings to articles. It also lets you add your own custom ratings to match your article layouts. To add a new rating for an article type go to your Admin CP and click "Manage Ratings". You must have already added your article types before doing this. If you have then you can select which article type you'd like this rating to display for.

(4) Custom Fields for Games and Users
Custom fields is a very handy tool. It allows you to build custom forms with fields you've created via the Admin CP. You can set these fields to be drop down menus or large text areas. It's up to you. To add a new custom field for Games or Users click on "Add new field" and then select your field type as either game or user.
